Bouclé is made from lengths of loops of similarly sized yarn which can range from tiny circlets to large curls. To make bouclé, at least two strands of yarn are combined, with the tension on one strand being much looser than the other as it is being plied. One loose strand forms the loops and the other anchors the core.
